Waiting on the Lord

Waiting on the Lord

Zechariah 12:6-10 AMP [6]

"In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, and like a flaming torch among sheaves [of grain]. They will devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left; and the people of Jerusalem will again live [securely] in their own place, in Jerusalem. [7] The LORD shall save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be magnified above Judah. [8] In that day the LORD will defend the people of Jerusalem, and the one who is impaired among them in that day [of persecution] will become [strong and noble] like David; and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD [who is] before them. [9] And in that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. [10] "I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace (unmerited favor) and supplication. And they will look at Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him as one who weeps bitterly over a firstborn.

God pours out on the house of David —The Spirit of unmerited favor and supplication is the Holy Spirit. We have 2 camps in the body of Christ right now.

  1. The “pressing in” crowd. Usually deeply entrenched in prayer but striving. Their value for the presence of God is shown by their sweat not their faith in Christ and his finished work. You can recognize them by the spiritual frustration they carry. Yes. frustration can be used for good if it’s brought to God. Often amongst this group it is not. Their abhorrence for the state of the church is justified by obscure Old Testament passages as though the blood of Jesus was never shed. Their identity is “watchmen” on the wall, contending for the faith as Jude proclaims but they often forget to remain in the Love of God as Jude also proclaims. If the fruit of the Spirit included anguish and lemon sucking they would certainly be on the right path. They run to the mountain to meet with God and hope their hands are clean and pure but never feel like they truly are. They study the scriptures but camp on old testament concepts and rip the center page of the Bible that says New Testament because “there is no difference.”

  2. The “resting” crowd. You won’t find sweat here and at times no real devotion. They are still laying in the same anointing they received 5 years ago and haven’t thought to ask for more since Jesus purchased “everything” and asking is an Old Testament concept prior to Jesus’ shedding his blood. You can find them casually walking with God with no sense of sobriety and diligence about how they walk with the Lord. Personal time with the Lord is not needed as God meets them wherever they are, never mind the example of Jesus. Sure, they rarely see miracles and the joy they once had from their previous breakthrough is gone. Their oil has gone stale as they have matured past seeking God and needing him daily. They lean on the finished work of Jesus but act as if they fully understand it. They don’t need a passion for scripture and don’t ask God to help them understand it. They have grace teachers they can rely on to fully unpack the gospel for them leading to gross errors and continuing on their dead works and sin.

This is what the Lord is taking us to:

A group that understands unmerited favor (rest) and supplication (Pressing in to God). This reality will teach the people of God that we have all things in Christ (Ephesians 1:6, Colossians 1:27, Galatians 3) and God fully furnishes us with The Spirit. This is all 1000% true but to understand (have revelation) of what has happened is an unfolding we will be experiencing for the rest of eternity. We need revelation to show us what is in the bank account. Knowing what we have intellectually is not sufficient to manifest spiritual reality. Hunger (Blessed are the hungry…) is the one of the kingdom cornerstones. Asking, seeking and knocking is our pathway to understand what is already ours. Rest and Pursuit must be married for it is wisdom and revelation. Wisdom helps us to rightly apply what was revealed and revelation keeps us on the aggressive revealing the new things God is saying.

So, please ask for more but do it from his lap and from his favor and from his presence and from his glory because we already have it.

So, please rest in his love because we have his grace, mercy and kindness to rely on but don’t stop pursuing the one you love.

to have God and still pursue him is the soul’s paradox of love…. (Bernard of Clairvaux)

The Spirit of grace and supplication must be married. We have received all things by grace now we need a revelation to see our inheritance. We need the eyes of our understanding enlightened (Ephesians 1:17-18) to understand our inheritance in a more practical fashion.
