Blessed is the man who relies on The Lord!
Jeremiah 17:7 - Amplified Bible
[5] Thus says the LORD, "Cursed is the man who trusts in and relies on mankind, making [weak, faulty human] flesh his strength, and whose mind and heart turn away from the LORD. [6] "For he will be like a shrub in the [parched] desert; And shall not see prosperity when it comes but shall live in the rocky places of the wilderness, In an uninhabited salt land. [7] "Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the LORD And whose hope and confident expectation is the LORD. [8] "For he will be [nourished] like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out its roots by the river; And will not fear the heat when it comes; But its leaves will be green and moist. And it will not be anxious and concerned in a year of drought nor stop bearing fruit.
When you rely on “flesh” or the strength of men, you are relying on a broken stick. A man or woman who believes and trusts in the Lord will be nourished and will not fear when challenge comes. Challenge will come, we can be ready by building on foundations that cannot be shaken. The Psalmist continues: Your leaves will be evergreen and anxiety will be far away as you constantly bear fruit.
Hallelujah! That’s our God!
2 Kings 18:21 - Contemporary English Version
Is he depending on Egypt and its king? That's the same as leaning on a broken stick, and it will go right through his hand.
To depend on people primarily is not trust the Lord. God doesn’t mean be ever doubtful of others. He means to put your reliance on God because people will fail you at some point. That’s ok. There is forgiveness but God wants your foundation to be Christ. Then, you will never be shaken. There are friends that stick closer than brothers in our lives but ultimately, it’s about Jesus.
Why is it important to Trust in the Lord?
God wants to bless us with himself and his treasures. God is good and while the gospel is not about prosperity. it’s about Jesus. He does include prosperity within it. Prosperity isn’t about money first. It’s about your heart being enriched, satisfied, and restored. God makes us happy! He delights our hearts when we rely on him and not “human schemes” and ideas. He delights when we rest in him.
3 John 1:2 - Amplified Bible
Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].
Psalm 34:8 - Amplified Bible Classic
O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.
You can trust in The Lord because his desire is for your welfare and success. He has your best interests in mind. The paths of the righteous may involve more waiting at times but they also include more blessing and satisfaction! Wait for the Lord and trust in his paths!
The Blessings of Trusting in the Lord
Psalm 40:2-4 - Amplified Bible
[2] He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps, and establishing my path. [3] He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear [with great reverence] And will trust confidently in the LORD. [4] Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who makes the LORD his trust and does not regard the proud nor those who lapse into lies. [5] Many, O LORD my God, are the wonderful works which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of your wonders, they would be too many to count.
Psalm 65:4 - Amplified Bible Classic
Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whom You choose and cause to come near, that he may dwell in Your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.
Blessed people are happy! Joyful! Fortunate enough to be envied. People will want to be like you! That is the blessing of the Lord! You will experience the free presence of God as you rely on Jesus.
Psalm 128:4 - New Century Version
[2] You will enjoy what you work for, and you will be blessed with good things. [3] Your wife will give you many children, like a vine that produces much fruit. Your children will bring you much good, like olive branches that produce many olives. [4] This is how the man who respects the LORD will be blessed. [5] May the LORD bless you from Mount Zion; may you enjoy the good things of Jerusalem all your life. [6] May you see your grandchildren. Let there be peace in Israel.
Trust, commit, depend, actively rely in the Lord and you will enjoy your work! You will be blessed with good! Your wife and children will bring much fruitfulness. Your whole life will be enriched, overflowing and abundant. God has the best plan for your life!
Trust in the Lord - A Pillar of Strength and Foundation
Our Lord is faithful! He will deliver us from all temptation and evil! Amen! The person of God is who we will know if we wait on Him. Waiting on him is meditating on Jesus. It’s worship! It’s fixing our minds on the eternal realm and bringing it to earth through a renewed mind.
Jeremiah 17:7 - Amplified Bible
"Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the LORD And whose hope and confident expectation is the LORD.
Confident expectation means a “heart fixed” on God as it’s source for all things! We look to God with hope in our hearts that He will dwell with us and bring his glory into our lives! When we believe, we are putting our full weight on the Lord.
Proverbs 10:22 - New American Standard Bible 2020
It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it.
it’s not our effort but our belief in God that propels us forward. That faith is a gift from Him as we keep hearing. Faith comes by hearing and hearing and hearing. No sorrow means no “hard labor.” It means unwearied by difficulties. It’s wealth without the problems! His blessing doesn’t come with the issues of the flesh.
Conclusion: How to Trust in God and What Does it Mean to Trust in The Lord?
1 Samuel 13:8-14 THE VOICE
8 Saul waited for Samuel for seven days, the amount of time he had been told by Samuel to wait. But the prophet did not come to Gilgal, and the people began to slip away. A few more days and Saul would have no army left, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.
Saul: 9 Bring me the animals for burnt offerings and the offerings of peace for the Lord.
10 Although Saul was not a priest, he offered the burnt offering himself without waiting for Samuel. Immediately after Saul finished the offering, when the aroma of the sacrifice lingered over the land, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to greet him and to pay his respects. But Samuel knew Saul had overstepped his bounds.
Samuel: 11 What have you done?
Saul: The people were deserting me! You didn’t come when you promised, and the Philistines were gathering for war at Michmash. 12 I thought, “The Philistines are going to attack me here in Gilgal, and I haven’t even asked the Eternal One to favor us.” So, I took matters into my own hands—I didn’t want to—but I offered the burnt offering myself.
Samuel: 13 That was a foolish thing, Saul. You have not kept the commandment that the Eternal, your True God, gave to you. He was willing to establish your kingdom over Israel for all time, 14 but now your kingdom, your dynasty, will not last. He has found a man who seeks His will and has appointed him king over all the people instead of you because you have not kept to what the Eternal One commanded.
Trusting in God means you can wait before Him and hold to his word. It means letting go of doing things the “natural” way. You can put out thousands of resumes or you can pursue God for the next step and to open your eyes to see it clearly. Pursue God’s paths and do not pull a Saul. Wait on the Lord actively. Do not rush. When God opens a door, it feels effortless because...God opened it. Be patient and trust in his word. If you can hold to the word while it tests you, you will be successful. The test is time and patience
