Too often we think we need to have a certain level of character before we can access certain blessings. While character is essential and to be desired. The most important element of Christian experience is faith.
Abraham believed God and it was credited to him for righteousness. Faith creates the character necessary to obtain the promise. It's a self watering seed(Isaiah 55). Abraham believed and his character caught up to the promise level. This lines up with Jesus' claim in John 6:29 that " the work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
Isaiah 55:10-11
“For as the rain and snow come down from heaven,And do not return there without watering the earth,Making it bear and sprout,And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So will My word be which goes out of My mouth;It will not return to Me void useless, without result,Without accomplishing what I desire,And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
