How to discern if a word is from God
Was it edifying, encouraging or exciting?
Did it bring a sense of building up, comfort or energy? That’s a clear indication of goodness. God is good. The enemy can’t generate these emotions since he doesn’t have access to them.
2. When God convicts, you can feel the love
Even when God corrects us though the discipline(better suited word might be training) can be painful (Hebrews) the love of God is always shed abroad in our hearts saying “abba Father” (Romans 8).
3. Listen to your inner voice
There will be times to listen to your inner voice (assuming it’s the Lord) and go against what others are saying. They may be offering practical wisdom when the Lord has a supernatural answer. Sometimes friends have good intentions sharing general advice (Think: Job’s friends) and aren’t asking the Lord for counsel into your specific situation.
There is safety in a multitude of counselors. However, like Paul, sometimes your friends will tell you not to go to Rome because of the dangers when the Spirit of God might be leading you there. Listen to counsel but ultimately trust God to lead you directly. He leads me is a common theme in Psalm 23 and in John 10 where Jesus declared “my sheep hear my voice.”
